Bole Hospital Project

Bole Hospital is a 11 blocks project equating to 99 floors in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Its total area is 106,225m2 and EASE-CCL’s Post-Tensioning system was incorporated at design stage.

The Ministry of Health, and their consultant Bon Voyage, contacted our company to provide a solution for the 7.5m span between columns.

The building’s original plan included Big Drop Beams of 70cm in both directions. Hospitals are famously known in the construction industry for being extremely complex due to their functional requirements. Extensive MEP scope is required, and traditional Drop Beams are a big constraining factor.

EASE-CCL introduced a Flat Slab of 16cm with Drop Panels as the alternative for the structure which eliminated huge cost and time waste, especially for the MEP scope.

EASE-CCL’s solutions achieved the following:

• Reduction in slab depth.

• 26% less concrete.

• 56% less steel.

• Drop Panels instead of Drop Beams, hence more flexibility and room height.

• Faster execution using easier formwork and curing time (7 days instead of 21).

• Total height reduction of 4.76m allowing the owner to reduce costs.

This project is a basic example of how our technology and Value Engineering benefits our clients. Providing an alternative slab system was enough to immensely reduce the cost and time for such a large and complex facility.
